Teeth Whitening and Sensitivity

By Jesse Ryan

The market is filled with amazing products, claiming to whiten your teeth. There are loads of teeth whitening kits and processes that help you brighten your teeth. These products are known to remove the discolorations on the surface of the teeth, however are not suitable for sensitive teeth.
While treating sensitive teeth, you must follow the directions carefully. The bleaching gels used in the teeth whitening trays might be abrasive and hence a few drops can cause a lot of irritation on the teeth. You must check the appropriate dosage on the product.

There are various desensitizers available in all the major pharmacy stores. These are merely the solutions that could be rubbed on the teeth prior to applying bleaching gels or trays. These are the same kinds of gels used by dentists before they apply concentrated chemicals on the teeth. Desensitizers are cost-effective and easily accessible.

While maintaining sensitive teeth, it is mandatory to use softer toothbrushes and lighter pastes. Hard bristles may perhaps cause irritation to the teeth, especially after whitening processes.

Irritation on sensitive could also be caused by eating certain foods, especially if you transition quickly between hot or cold foods. The best thing is to identify such foods and keep a log of it. Try cutting down on such foods and then notice the difference on your teeth.

All the whitening processes on the sensitive teeth must be done at the dentist’s clinic since at-home remedies may cause some pain or irritation.
