More people were now willing to undergo the procedure at a dentist’s office. This paved the way for the eventual availability of the home treatment kits we have today.

Many people are surprised that tooth whitening processes have been in existence for so long. A common question is, “Why did it take so long for these products to become available to consumers?” Several things contribute to this: product safety, legal issues, and FDA approvals being primary among them.

The great thing is we now have access to safe home whitening products, and they actually work. Some users report positive results almost immediately. However, normal expectations range between 5 and 20 days. Of course, the condition of the teeth prior to treatment has a definite bearing on how long it takes to achieve an acceptable range of whiteness.

Recently, some companies have claimed to have bleaching compounds that are as potent as the ones used by dentists. If this becomes a standard, the majority of teeth whitening will most certainly take place at home.

In twenty more years, the best tooth whitening procedures and materials will probably change entirely. It is conceivable that a new bleaching tool might render today’s techniques obsolete. Until that happens, you still have access to some very successful and affordable products to enhance and brighten your smile.
